• Masterclasses aim to develop technique, repertoire and explore style. The Masterclass strand of Meitheal is supported by the National Concert Hall (See below).

  The NCH also extend an invitation to the most promising musician at Meitheal '08 to play solo at the Meitheal event in August at the National Concert Hall, Dublin ( See the Awards page).
  

• Composition Workshops : In 2007, these provided a forum to work with a tutor in exploring the art of composition, especially in the more unusual tune types such as strathspeys, barndances & highlands and to learn to produce new material of one's own in the traditional Irish idiom.
  
  A full scholarship to Meitheal '09 will be awarded to the winner of our Composition Competition. See the Composition page.

• Trad Music Arrangement workshops put together an innovative performance of music with imaginative arrangement and harmony.

• Trad Orchestra is an opportunity to be part of a sophisticated suite of material with harmonies and arrangement for large group. This material will be performed during the finale concert at a top class theatre and also a month later in the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

Workshop sizes

There is an upper limit on numbers in all workshops. Enrolments are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis, so please enrol early to ensure your place. Please note that we reserve the right to cancel individual workshop options if we have not had sufficient enrolments by the closing date. Please note : Tutors are subject to change. Meitheal does not guarantee the services of any specific tutor.

The National Concert Hall's Education and Community Outreach Programme exists to provide a range of events for all people in Ireland, regardless of age, background or geographic location, where they can experience music within an informal musical environment.
